Nicki Minaj Slated to Perform at Versace for H&M Launch

Remember when Nicki Minaj sat next to Anna Wintour at not one, but two fashion shows during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week in September? Many fashion insiders wondered if a Vogue cover featuring the Super Bass rapper was in the works.

Well, no big Minaj cover is planned, but the Queens, N.Y. native is set to continue her ascent into the upper echelons of the fashion world this week. Minaj is set to join Prince at the New York launch of the Versace for H&M collection.

“I am so pleased to share with so many the excitement of this collaboration with H&M,” Donatella Versace told Women’s Wear Daily. “To have my friend, the great, the amazing, the one and only Prince, and the extraordinary Nicki Minaj both perform at the event, will create exactly the feeling of joy and glamour I want this partnership to express.”

The official launch date of Versace for H&M is Nov. 18 and is “dominated by dresses featuring studded leather, silk and colorful print, with accessories including high heels and costume jewelry,” according to the designer.

“All these people reacting to what was in the archives — Gaga, the people in London, the young kids in the office — they’re 25 years old, they’re obsessed… But they don’t know the whole story. So we did a best of Versace for H&M, a greatest hits, from the beginning until now,” Versace told Style.com of the inspiration.

That still doesn’t answer one question: Why Minaj? She’s not afraid to push the fashion envelope – something that the Versace for H&M Collection represents with its bold colors and print pants. Versace appreciates that personalized approach to fashion.

“I can’t wait to see how H&M’s wide audience will make these pieces their own,” she said of the collection.
