Sasha Grey is a popular pornographic actress. It is true that at the time of me writing this she is considered retired from making adult movies, but once a porn actress always a porn actress: you cannot go back and get yourself taken out of that body of work. She will continue to gain fans and be discovered having sex on video. So, it is not a case of “was” but a case of “is” – Sasha Grey IS a porn actress. This doesn’t mean she will be nothing more. She is, can, and will be so much more if she chooses. She apparently knows how to read, as evidenced by the news spinning out one of their latest scandals that is not worthy of our time. Reading is a key ingredient to breeding intelligence.
By saying Sasha Grey is a pornographic actress, I’m not inferring that is a bad thing; to each their own, and to each their own personal story of life and how they live it. Any regrets or bad karma she may feel or perhaps subtle guilt over having crossed any moral lines that help propagate exploitation in some way should not linger in my opinion, because her pornographic work has surely helped many people as well. I bet there are many appreciative dudes and ladies out there. However, should a porn actress be allowed to enter a school and read books to children? Yes.
Sasha Grey is a human being. Human beings have sex. Human beings like sex. Human beings like to watch others have sex! Human beings like porn. Porn is a huge business. Sasha Gray made a name for herself in that huge business. There is nothing illegal or shameful about the choices one makes in terms of whether or not they want to do pornography. If she wanted to do porn, she wanted to do porn. If that was a mistake, it was her mistake and her problem, but what it all comes around to is: people are hypocritical in how they judge people who have acted in pornographic movies. They are not criminals and they have not done anything unusual per-say. I speak in generality, I am not speaking of old rapist and con artists preying on flesh through the medium. Don’t get me wrong, the boogeyman does exist and he will steal your daughter if you give him the chance. And I also say “per-say” because, well, I’ve seen some freaky movies, but how freaky am I for having put myself in the position to see such things?
The news is making it seem that parents are upset to find out that a porn star was reading to their children. To be upset might make sense on the quick glance surface, but in reality this means people are passing judgment. They are labeling Sasha Grey some sort of criminal deviant or all around bad influence on the human race ala don’t let her around kids because they may accidentally turn out to be, um, successful? I guess I should not call Sasha Grey successful, that’s for her to determine as well, however, from the outsider looking in she seems to have done pretty well for herself.
Was she reading pornography to the children? I doubt it. Was she giving them insider access to wild sex stories? I doubt it. Did the kids even know who she was? It’s possible some did. However, it all probably went smooth and they probably would have only remember being read some crummy story about bears in fire trucks or whatever it is kids read these days, except mommy and daddy don’t have them read at home! Mommy and daddy have the kids parked in front of the television where the news is telling them they were assaulted by a pervert actress and that sex is a dirty, dirty sin. So when we get a generation with nothing aside from fart in their heads, with loads of emotional issues stemming from exposure to the vile human body and the guilt of their parent’s lessons in sin, passed down like stories of Santa Clause and George Washington cutting down that mythological tree, we will have pornographic actresses who take time out of their day to read books with them to blame, right?
I don’t know Sasha Grey. I cannot say she is a good person on the inside. I cannot say I find her to be brilliant. I cannot say anything except this: at least she’s trying. Even if it were to turn out that it was for some selfish reason of just pretending to try and do good things to help the human race from becoming slobber bags capable only of watching her past porn exploits: it is more effort than many are putting out. Yes, Sasha Grey puts out and she puts out for your kids. Lucky little tykes. Thank her.
