Q: I have the painful red bump inside my belly button, I don’t know what it is. I suppose it could be a hernia but mine has progressed in pain very quickly in the past 3 days, it kept me up last night because of the pain. Just wondering if anyone might have an idea what it would be, or how to treat it? It hurts whenever I move basically. If it helps, I am a 16 year old male and a little over weight. Thanks.

A: It might be an abscess, especially if you tend to sweat in that area. My suggestion is that if it looks sort of like a pimple, put hot compresses on the area and it should bring it to a head and open up and drain in a couple days. You can also buy things over the counter for boils/abcesses to help it come to a head faster.If that doesn’t work though, you might want to see a dermatologist.
