why is alcohol bad for your heart?
Q: This makes me feel so dumb by asking this but my husband was asking me earlier and I was drawing a blank as to why it is bad for your heart. I am still drawing a blank as to why it is bad. Please help! I am feeling so dumb right now. Thanks!
A: Hi there, don’t feel dumb. I can’t give you a doctor’s written statement on why is alcohol bad for your heart, but I’m dealing with an alcoholic mother. She drinks, eh, 5 hours straight every night and it’s beer. It’s very hard, but she has heart problems from it. She doesn’t see that though. I’m not exactly sure what “heart problems” she has, but she gets high blood pressure, her body is deteriorating, and really killing her. She has no strength anymore. She does get flutters in her heart a lot, but she also deals with a lot of stress. I keep praying to this day that she’ll stop, but since she doesn’t realize it’s a problem, she keeps drinking.Sorry, wish I could be more of a help, but I just know alcohol damages a person physically and emotionally. Take Care!
Drinking alcohol affects your heart?
Q: I’m underaged (16 years old) and I don’t drink because I have PVC’s (irregular heartbeat) and I’m too scared that the alcohol will make my heart worse and I’ll drop dead or somethingSo my question: when you get drunk, do you feel your heart do crazy things?? And if you have PVC’s when sober, do you get more when you drink????I’m very skinny so it probably wouldn’t take a lot to get me drunk..but im only asking this for when I’m legal (21) because I have a feeling I’m never going to be able to drink because of my sucky heart problem (even though it’s not a serious/dangerous heart problem)My mom always says, “go ahead, get drunk..but don’t come running to me when your heart starts skipping beats and you end up in the hospital” Her saying that has definitely stopped me from drinking =/I know doctors and heart specialists say that alcohol does make PVC’s worse, but I want to know from people personally. Thanks
A: Good advice for you would be to stay away from it all together. I used to have a drinking problem that started when I was your age, and lasted close to 4 years. I used to drink everyday, and I loved it. I sometimes would even drink twice a day. After about 3 and a half years of doing this, I started to have numbness and tingling in my left arm, and pain with it, I started having what I thought was an irregular heartbeat, I thought that I was going to die. I would often times drink and then when I would feel these symptons I would run to the emergency room thinking I was having a heart attack. Several visits, and thousands of dollars in bills later, I found out that I was healthy, but was told by countless doctors to stop drinking before it kills me. So basically, long story short, I do not have any heart issues, but when I used to drink, I would. So yes it will cause you problems, and it is not worth it, regardless of weather everyone thinks it is cool. My advice is, you have your whole life ahead of you, don’t waste it drinking. Good luck wth your health issues. Oh and by the way, I am now sober, and have a family, and serve in the US Army, all things that I would not have have if I kept drinking. YOUR MOM IS RIGHT. =)
