There’s no doubt about it, Angelina Jolie is serious when it comes to her role as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador! The actress has been putting her good works ahead of her acting career for a while now, and it appears that she wants to increase her role with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

It appears that the high profile star wants to take on the new title of Special Representative on the Afghan Refugee Situation. The new title will allow the actress to focus her humanitarian efforts towards the people Afghanistan. The full details of the role are still under negotiation and should be announced later this month.

The mom-of-six isn’t the first star to step up to help the United Nations help the world. Here’s a look at celebrities who have served as United Nations Goodwill Ambassadors:

Angelina Jolie: The Oscar winner approached the United Nations about becoming a Goodwill Ambassador in 2001 in order to learn more about humanitarian field campaigns. She has made visits to refugee sites around the world including Cambodia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kenya, and many more. It was through her volunteer work that she was inspired to adopt her children Maddox, Zahara, and Pax.

Sofia Loren: The Italian star was named as the Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR in 1991. She focused her efforts on bringing attention to the plight of Kenyan refugees.

Richard Burton: The “Cleopatra” star was one of the very first U.N. Goodwill Ambassadors named in the early 1980’s. His role was primarily to make media statements and public appearances to raise awareness of the growing refugee situations around the globe.

Giorgio Armani: The fashion designer has been a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador since 2001. He focuses his efforts at raising funds for refugees under UNHCR’s care through projects including holiday campaigns at Emporio Armani stores around the globe.
