It’s beginning to look a lot like Fascism
Ev’rywhere you go;
Soon you’ll be doing five to ten in a secret prison
with waterboarding and battery cables aglow.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Fascism
Police on ev’ry corner
But the scariest sight you’ll see is the soldiers that’ll be
knocking down your door.
A pair of jackboots on your neck and a pistol shot in the head
is the wish of Republicans and Democrats;
Workers who will not talk and will not stop
is the hope of corporate masters ev’ry where;
And the Fascists can hardly wait for riots in the streets again.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Fascism
Ev’rywhere you go;
There’s a camera on ev’ry corner & one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn’t yield to a blow.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Fascism;
Soon the roundups will start,
And the thing that will make you scream is the death kneel of freedom’s ring
Right in your own backyard.
Author’s Note: Sadly, after completing this piece, a Google search revealed a very similar satire to my own… one that I actually consider superior after reading it. If you enjoyed this poem, please check out Thomas Fortenberry’s version @ http://thomasfortenberry.net/?p=4527
