Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Radiant Firming Foundation

Much to my despair, my favorite foundation was discontinued. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a shine-fighting, medium coverage foundation with a little bit of salicylic acid. It fought shine, acne, and aging in one little bottle. I haven’t been able to find it in a few months, and since my tube was running out, I decided it was time to try something new. I poked around the makeup aisle at Target, debating over coverage levels, color correcting, and shine fighting. I’m certainly not getting any younger, so I hesitantly settled for something in the age fighting category.

The problem. I’m always afraid to try something new on my skin because it’s very sensitive. The littlest changes cause me to breakout. While drugstore brands may not be glamorous, they certainly have a lot of research dollars to support them. I figured that Maybelline would be a safe bet for my finicky skin. I guessed my foundation shade and chose Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Radiant Firming Foundation. I hoped it would do the same things as my previous foundation, or at least be pretty close.

The solution. Maybelline claims that the Age Rewind Radiant Firming Foundation firms the skin and evens out the skin tone. It contains caffeine and Goji berry. It also contains SPF 18 to help protect against further sun damage.

What I like. This foundation didn’t feel heavy or gloppy. It went on nicely over a primer, and certainly helped even out the ruddiness of my skin. It seems to stay put and cover well. I’ve been using it for about a week and haven’t had a new breakout yet, so I feel pretty good about this foundation. It doesn’t have any strange odors, which is another plus. And of course, I like anything that contains caffeine.

What could be better. I like to put a little foundation on the back of my hand and apply it from there, so that the bottle doesn’t get contaminated by my fingertips. Since it is a liquid foundation, a lot of it seems to run out at once and I end up wasting it. I like that the foundation really stays put on my face, but stays put on my hands and on the sink. It’s a little difficult to wash off, but I suppose that it is a small price to pay to look good.

Tips for application. For best results, apply a face primer before applying any foundation. Maybelline does make a coordinating primer for the Instant Age Rewind Radiant Firming Foundation. Put a little foundation on a damp sponge and dab it over your face, being careful not to apply too much. In a pinch, fingertips work great, too, just be careful to get a smooth, even application.
