The fall 2011 TV schedule has a lot of new shows to offer us viewers. With genres ranging from historical fiction to supernatural dramas, there will definitely be a show which will peak your interest. Many of the first episodes have already aired, but here is a brief synopsis of five new shows that are definitely worth watching.
Person of Interest
Created by J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan, this new Crime/Thriller debuted on September 22nd, 2011. As of now, the CBS show will have 13 episodes in its first season and will air on Thursdays at 9pm. This series is about a post-9/11 world where Mr. Finch (Michael Emerson) has developed an algorithm to predict the next major terrorist attack. What he realizes is that the system also predicts smaller events regarding seemingly insignificant individuals. Mr. Finch enlists the help of John Reese (Jim Caviezel), an ex-CIA operative, to investigate why these specific people were marked and to prevent a potential life-threatening situation.
Revenge
This Mystery/Thriller was created by Mike Kelley and airs on Wednesdays at 10pm on the ABC network. Madeleine Stowe has the role of socialite Victoria Grayson, one of two people responsible for destroying more than just the Clarke family. Madeleine Stowe has had a long film career, with major roles in movies like The Last of the Mohicans and 12 Monkeys. Actress Emily VanCamp’s resume includes TV shows Everwood, Law & Order:SVU and Brothers & Sisters. Playing the lead role of Emily Thorne a.k.a. Amanda Clarke, she seeks to take revenge on a Hampton’s power couple that framed her father and ruined their lives. Armed with a fortune from her dead father, she carefully executes her plans for revenge.
Terra Nova
With the help of Steven Spielberg, the ideas of Kelly Marcel have been turned into this fall’s newest Science Fiction series. You can catch the show on Mondays at 8pm on the Fox network. The show opens with our planet on the brink of extinction in the 2149. To save the human race, scientists develop a time machine to send people back to when dinosaurs ruled the plant. “Terra Nova” refers to the first settlement on prehistoric Earth. Its leader Commander Nathaniel Taylor (Stephen Lang) survived for months on his own and was the first to come through the gate. Actor Stephen Lang is best known for his role as Col. Miles Quaritch in James Cameron’s blockbuster hit, Avatar.
The Playboy Club
The new NBC series, The Playboy Club, seems to have the same feel as the AMC show Mad Men. Not only do the two shows take place at similar periods in time, but they make sure they portray how far women’s rights have come. Created by Chad Hodge, this new Crime Drama is about the lives of the Playboy bunnies working at the first Playboy club in Chicago. The new TV show, starring Eddie Cibrian and Amber Heard, can be seen on Mondays at 10pm. Unfortunately, the show has created controversy with its raciness before it even aired. Activists for women’s rights and for quality television have publicly voiced their opinions against this series.
The Secret Circle
The Secret Circle is yet another Supernatural/Teen Drama courtesy of the CW network. The show takes place in a town where six witch families have lived for generations. Following an incident with the previous generation, the secret circle was broken and their powers were taken away. After her mother dies in a fire, high school student Cassie Blake (Britt Robertson) moves back to the town where it all started. With the secret circle now back together, these teenagers are discovering their new found powers, but have no idea of the repercussions to binding their powers like their parents before them. The program can be seen on Thursdays at 9pm.
