When in Holland I first arrived,
I was taken by surprise.
The canals were everywhere,
I was surprised and always aware.
The canals were dark and very deep,
Into them some things would seep.
I did not want that fate for me,
So I kept away, you see.
In the day I loved the light,
Which darked with the evening night.
I loved to watch and see the view,
The canals where something I would rue.
I walked beside the canals at night,
They were a particular delight.
I loved the dawn and early haze,
I loved the sunny golden days.
The canals are here forvever,
No matter what the silly weather.
They will remain and we will see,
Them for all eternity.
