Does anyone have an irregular heartbeat?
Q: My heart feels like it stops beating for a second or two. It is called something like PCV or something similar. It scares me to death sometimes. The doctor says it is okay. I take Coreg and have had the treadmill stress test and the doppler and the echo. I feel lightheaded at times. I have seen 2 heart specialists and my regular MD. Just wonder if anyone has the same condition and how does it make you feel. I was wondering if I need a different medicine for the blood pressure.
A: yep, theyre PVCs (premature ventricular contractions) im 22yrs old and get hundreds sometimes thousands per day (what really sucks is youre suppose to get more with age). theyre pretty comon, ive done a lot of reading on them and its estimated anywhere between 5%-70% of the population has them on a regular basis, just some people get a lot more than others…Coreg actually has beta blocking capabilities (beta blockers are usually used to decrease the frequency of PVCs, carvedilol doesnt have as much effect as drugs like atenolol or metoprolol though that they usually give to people for PVCs) but it can aggravate them in some people as well. if you arent good about taking your coreg every day, they could be causing them; suddenly stopping and starting that drug can cause irregular heart rhythms, which is why your pill bottle probably says somthing about how you shouldnt stop taking it cold turkey.anyway, PVCs are scary, especially when you first get them. ill admit that; but they are harmless if youve been evaluated and have a normal heart. its tough to beleive a doctor when he tells you that its “normal” to feel your heart stop hundreds of times every day, but it is….. youve seen 3 doctors now, you just have to have faith in them. i know i use to wonder if i was misdiagnosed too, but my heart has always started back up. youll get use to them eventually, just relax and try to ignore them. dont obsess over them, eventually youll get use to them and once the scare factor is gone, they wont bother you nearly as much, you just get the old “heart hiccup” feeling.try to figure out what your “triggers” are that aggravate them and then avoid the activities, mine are mainly stress and lack of sleep. caffeine, alcohol, medications, are some other common ones. you can also check out the heart forums at http://www.medhelp.org there are a ton of people there that go crazy over PVCs. you shouldnt even have to answer a question, just browse through the older questions and you should find a lot of advice and support type stuffand for the person that is talking about PSVT, PVCs and PSVT are two very different arrythmias, PVCs are completely harmless.
How do I know if I have an irregular heart beat?
Q: My heart seems kinda weird. I had about 80 heartbeats per minute but it seemed weird and kind of beated randomly.
A: 8o bpm is not high at all… normal is between 60 and 100. If you think you are having irregular heart beats, they should be able to be felt in your pulse. To find your radial pulse, place your hand palm side up and slide your first two fingers of the opposite hand down the outer edge of your thumb until you reach the outer aspect of your wrist. Apply gentle pressure to the area until you feel it. If you have an irregular heart beat, you will feel longer pauses between certain beats. If you don’t feel irregularity, and are still concerned, you should go see your doc… he can do an ecg and be able to give you a definitive answer.
irregular heart beat? how do i no?
Q: how do you know if you have an irregular heart beat? or palpitations? and would your doctor tell you during a physical if you did?I notice that my heart beats faster, then all of a sudden it slows down dramatically, not gradually. And then sometimes it feels like my heart skips beats. It’ll be like boom, boom, boom, boom, BOOM!!!!! …pause….boom, boom, etc. And for bio class we had to take stress tests. We took our heartbeat for a min, did activity (ran), then take it again until it goes back to normal, but mine never did. It would slowly go down, then jump back up again.i’m 15. 115lbs. my hands shake all the time, but then again i’m stressed and get anxious easily. i eat an ok diet, you know my mom makes healthy food, but i do eat some junk. i drank a lot of pop and coffee, not so much anymore.
A: I wish I know how old are you… but it can be related to hormonal imbalance, you will be amazed how this affect your body. I had the same problem, but I “fixed it” with natural progesterone cream, Vitamin B6100mg and CoEnzimeQ10 100mg .wich makes heart’s muscle stronger. Its better to prevent, than treat. I fell very good now and I have good energy.
