Grade F for Legislators and School Boards

It was almost two years ago when the Rode Island school board decided to dismiss an entire high school faculty because of the students continued failure to achieve even the slightest improvement in academics. This wasn’t the answer to what has and still is transpiring in our public school systems all over the country today. Teachers are given curriculums that are mandated by law and by school boards. In some cases where a teacher interprets what is in the curriculum may not be perceived by a student as relevant to the subject matter. But, non-the less a complete dismissal of all faculty is not going to solve the acute problems in our schools or students failure to comprehend what is being taught.

Our whole society from the late 1960’s to today has gone through a transformation from what was deemed as inexcusable behavior back in the 60’s is now the norm in today’s society. It may have been certain teachers failure to instill a desire or thirst for knowledge in students today but that does not negate the fact that certain laws were passed, regulations relaxed, and policies have changed that for over 40 years have undermined the public education system all across the United States.

Today’s children are increasingly being raised by single parents, schools have slashed budgets, arts, music, and sports have all been either eliminated all together or have made it increasingly more difficult for today’s youth to partake in. All of these factors combined with the atmosphere in most public schools today is really not conducive to promoting academics or any other form of educational experiences.

Today’s failure on public schools lies not with the professionals who are entrusted with teaching our youth but with society itself. This incident in Rode Island symbolizes that the United States is just now realizing that drastic reform must be initiated in our schools, society, and our economy.

To prepare our youth for not only the employment opportunities, but for being responsible adults and concerned citizens of society we must always remember that the United States was founded on 4 basic principals, Liberty, Justice, Morality, and Education. Sadly though, these 4 principals have deteriorated so much in our society today it is no wonder our schools are failing our youth.

To restore our educational systems and to posture our children so that they will be able to embrace the future only total reform must be implemented. From reverting some Supreme Court decisions that empowered our children with responsibilities they were and are too young and inexperienced to comprehend the consequences of their actions to rebuilding our economy is of vital importance in securing the future of our nation and our children.

This is accomplished by informing all Americans that dire consequences will result of not reforming our educational systems and providing a balanced academic experience for our youth. The rebuilding of our economy is so crucial to ending the cycle of financial distress that continues to undermine families and leaves children with only one parent or non at all. Respect, discipline, structure, balance, and attention are essential in all developmental stages of life in our children. Without them a “Lord Of The Flies” type atmosphere soon develops with disastrous results.

The United States future lies in the hand of our children. If we fail to provide necessary financial support that is so crucial for the educational experiences to materialize our youth will never be able to secure the future of this country. This is paramount for all levels of government to consider ways to drastically improve our economy immediately and restore what is essential for our youth to truly succeed in school and in life.
