The Ten Best Songs by Curren$y

It’s only 2011, and I expect more from the Hot Spitta since he puts in work (2 albums & 3 mixtapes this year) but so far these are what I think are his bests songs, with honorable mentions at the end.

10. BBS
Covert Coup
First off the beat by Alchemist is ridiculous as always. But Spitta also kills it. His flow and metaphors are flawless. “Love got a shovel in her hand, I see ya diggin’.” Plus real fans can understand what hes saying in this song, but if you don’t listen to a lot of Curren$y this isn’t a bad piece to start at.

9. She On My Mind
Independence Day
If you listen to this one all the way through the story’s pretty funny. Plus we’ve all been through it, just not all of us are strong enough to admit it.

8. Breakfast (feat. Mos Def)
Pilot Talk
I’m pretty sure Mos did the beat. This song is chill & relaxing. Plus the video is pretty cool too. And we all know Spitta sounds best over them breezy beats.

7. She Don’t Want A Man
Weekend At Burnie’s
Another one of the few that tells a story all the way through. It’s interesting to say the least, and the beat reminds me of J Dilla. You can sucked into the beat or the story, and both are dope.

6. Job
Verde Terrace
The title says it all. It’s his job now. Everyday hustle, music is Spitta’s life, and the statistics show. This song kind of reminds me of BBS, but improved. He’s still stickin’ to the script just like he has since Pineapple Sunkiss.

5. On My Plane
This Ain’t No Mixtape
“A rolling stone gathers no moss, I’m stoned.” One of the many double meaning lines Spitta throws out that always blow my mind at how creative he can be. And this is when he was just getting started.

4. Audio Dope & Address (feat. Stalley)
Pilot Talk
I threw in both of these at four because I made the list and forgot Address, so I put em both at 4 cause they’re both tied in my opinion. Skibeatz produced both tracks, which I recently read in an article have been around since “Reasonable Doubt” days, and they still bump! Sad both of these guys don’t get the recognition they deserve but like he says in Audio Dope “They not like me, that’s why they don’t like me.”

3. Surface To Air (feat. Wiz Khalifa)
How Fly
First of all go get How Fly if you haven’t heard it because it’s fresh. The beat makes me feel like I’m underwater or something. It’s crazy. Plus Spitta kills it in this song. Great jam to surface to air to.

2. Famous
Pilot Talk II
This is one of my personal favorites but this song is that good. The saxophone in the beat is just dope. You’ll be hooked on this if you know Spitta.

1. Life Under The Scope
Jet Files
I put the Jet Files version (which is also the video version) because I think it’s better than the Pilot Talk version. Curren$y explains what it’s like living under the scope, but also tells you that you need to understand that everywhere someone is gonna hate. Don’t let it get to ya, be real, and keep straight. Go out and buy his albums and support real music. Two albums = One Gram. You can spare a G. Jets Fool.

Honorable Mentions: Elevator Music, I Did It Myself, Roasted (feat. Trademark Da Skydiver, Young Rodney), King Kong, Montreux, Michael Knight, Airborne Aquarium, Example, Bring Her Home, Role Model, Hennessy Beach (feat. Dom Kennedy), Rollin Up (feat. Wiz Khalifa), there’s honestly too many to list..
