Thou Shall Love Me

2012 is the year of me. I will not make resolutions to lose 30 pounds or eat better, instead I will make small changes I know I can work into a daily routine. These types of resolutions will stick with my life because these resolutions are realistic.

1. Thou shall not wear emo eyeliner. I fall victim to the teal eyeshadow lined with thick, black eyeliner all too often. When I was 18 this was completely acceptable. I’m over 25 now, and even if I see how cute all the emo kids look at Taking Back Sunday and Alkaline Trio shows, there is a point where I have to grow up. Skull and crossbones are a thing of my past, so the eyeliner has to go, too.. Even if I have more to be emo adult as an adult than a carefree teen.

2. Thou shall not wear fat clothes. Everyone has bad days where they want to lie around the house in jeans a size too big, paired with a sweatshirt that’s even BIGGER. Though it’s comfortable, these looks are not appealing and must never be seen, even by the image in the mirror. Some hipster or under privileged person can enjoy these clothes as they will all go into the donation bin. It’s about having self respect, enough respect to dress my best every day.

3. Thou shall not suffer with flakey face. Living in Milwaukee it’s not hard to get dry skin in the winter time. Heat is harsh on the skin as is wind and cold temperatures. I will take the time to lotion every night before bed, applying thick and nourishing night time cream to soak in as I sleep. In the morning I will wash my face with gentle face wash, pairing primer with my foundation for a clean look.

4. Thou shall take the time to indulge in manicures. My cuticles are often too rough and my nails lacking color. Nail polish is one of the biggest perks of being female, and every season a new color makes your hands pop. I will take the time to remove my nail polish when it cracks and chips and immediately add new color. Each week I will sport a new color for a small change in my appearance.

5. Thou shall layer clothing. The best timeless look is layers. Tank tops paired with T-shirts and cardigans or thin sweaters never goes bland. I will add scarves and rings for a personal touch to a common look. Most importantly I will mix patterns with solid colors to appear confident and fresh.
