Easter is a Time of Joy, Comfort, and Reflection

Easter has always been a time of joy, comfort, and reflection for me. When my children were young, I remember taking them to church after they searched for their Easter baskets earlier that morning. The sunrise service is a beautiful time to reflect on these tender moments involving our Lord and Savior. Many verses within the Bible are about Easter: the resurrection of Christ, His power, and saving grace. The book of Mark tells us all about Easter. Three words stand out: He has risen!

“When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, ‘Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?’

But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’

Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.”

~Mark 16:1-8

What touches me the most throughout the Easter holiday; the preparation, the excitement and opportunity for another family get together is His great love for all of us expressed in John 3:16 and Romans 8:38, 39 and many other verses throughout the Bible.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should ot perish but have eternal life.”
~John 3:16

“For I am convinced that neither life nor death, neither angels nor principalities, neither present nor future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
~Romans 8:38, 39
