The two highest paid actresses on television are “30 Rock” star Tina Fey and “Desperate Housewives” co-star Eva Longoria. Both topped the Forbes list earning $13 million dollars between May 2010 and May 2011.
Tina Fey:
In addition to starring on “30 Rock,” Tina Fey also created the series. Fey played casting director when the series was being launched and since the show’s first season, “30 Rock” has racked up numerous Emmy Awards. In 2009, “30 Rock” was nominated for a record setting 22 Emmy Awards for a comedy series.
Before the success of “30 Rock,” Fey was the head writer and news correspondent on “Saturday Night Live.” The writer and actress also starred in various movies like “Date Night” and “Baby Mama.”
Eva Longoria:
One of the stars of the ABC juggernaut, “Desperate Housewives,” is Eva Longoria. Although Longoria led her co-stars in earnings, the three other regulars of Wisteria Lane also managed to land on the Forbes list of highest paid actresses.
Longoria plays Gabrielle Solis, who in the first season stole the series by having an affair with her gardener. Known on screen for being a materialistic woman, Longoria’s family was actually poor growing up. Since being on “Desperate Housewives,” Longoria has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
The actress starred on “The Young and the Restless” and became known worldwide when she appeared in men’s magazines such as FHM.
Most Valuable Player:
Both Fey and Longoria play integral roles on their respective shows. The age old question in sports is when a player is named Most Valuable Player, if you take that person off the team, would the team still be effective?
Fey created the series, stars and writes several episodes of “30 Rock.” Longoria is one of the stars, whose co-stars earned nearly as much. If you took Eva Longoria out of Wisteria Lane, would “Desperate Housewives” still be a hit?
What about Tina Fey? Could Liz Lemon make an exit from “TGS with Tracy Jordan” and not have the show fail? With “Desperate Housewives” in its final season, it’s very possible Tina Fey will continue her reign on top.
