Pumpkin Picking at Dodge Farms, New Boston, NH

We’ve only been in New Hampshire for a week, but one of the things we’ve been so excited to do is to go to a pumpkin patch. We made an annual tradition of it when we lived in Wisconsin, then we moved to Phoenix and, well, the whole idea of picking out a pumpkin when you’re surrounded by cactus and wearing shorts isn’t all that appealing.

While we were out driving last week, we passed Dodge Farms in New Boston, N.H., and saw that they had hayrides out to the patch — you can’t get any better than that!

We stopped by and found that they had lots of interesting pumpkins and gourds to choose from:

See the white ones? They’re called Ghost Pumpkins — don’t you just love that? I got one, but I’m not sure if I’ll carve it or just leave it since it’s so pretty on its own. And you have to see these:

These are Cinderella Pumpkins – don’t they look just like Cinderella’s carriage? L-O-V-E. I loved all he different gourds they had available too, and wanted to buy one of each.

Finally, the family had to drag me away from all the lovely gourds and pumpkins, and we boarded the hayride to head to the pumpkin patch. It took about 10 minutes, and we passed some beautiful scenery.

Sigh.

We turned a bend, and there we were!

We went a bit late in the season, but there was still a good variety of pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. We had to make a rule, though: you pick it, you carry it. Someone had trouble with that rule.

She ended up rolling it part of the way. Which doesn’t technically count as “carrying” but at least she got it to the tractor. And the price? We paid less than $15 for massive pumpkins for the three of us. Love it! Definitely making Dodge Farms part of our annual pumpkin-picking tradition.
