College Dorm Essentials

Every college student wants to make their college dorm look and feel like home since they are going to be staying there for the school year. Because the college only provides a student with the very bare basics, such as a bed and a desk, there are several other items a dorm needs to make it a functional space that any student will feel comfortable in. Here is a short list of college dorm essentials that every student should have.

Computer – Whether you choose to bring a desktop computer or a laptop, you will spend a lot of time on your computer researching, writing papers and updating your Facebook status as to where you’re going, how much you hate your English professor and how badly you wish your parents would send you some money. Having your own laptop or desktop computer with you will make things a lot easier because you won’t have to spend as much time hoping that the library computer isn’t going to crap out on you anytime soon. Bedding – The college doesn’t provide you with your own bedding, so bringing your own is a must. If you bring your own bedding with you, you will also be able to guarantee that you won’t get bed bugs or some other nasty illness or disease from sleeping between someone else’s sheets every night. This is especially true of pillows as head lice can be easily transferred from using pillows from other people. Mini Fridge – While there is a cafeteria on campus that you can eat at, as well as pizza delivery close by every college, that doesn’t account for having a place to keep cold drinks and snacks when you are in your dorm room cramming from your next exam. Microwave – A microwave is essential for small snacks such as popcorn, Hot Pockets and delivery pizza when you are stuck in your dorm room studying or the cafeteria is closed. Having a microwave makes things easier for when you might get hungry and there is no other place to go and eat. Alarm Clock – It would be a shame to be late for your classes after you spent so long studying the night before. Having an alarm clock that sits away from your bed so you are required to get up and turn it off is essential for any college dorm room. Shower Caddy – You may not have a bathroom inside your dorm room. Therefore, a shower caddy that you can take all your bathroom and shower things back and forth in will be helpful so you don’t have to walk with an armful of items down the hall. Garbage Can – Nobody wants their small space to look dirty. Having a garbage can, no matter how small, will help keep your space neat. You will also be able to throw away your rough draft attempts of papers you are being forced to write. Posters – You will want to bring posters or pictures of friends and family with you to decorate your walls. A dorm room can get pretty boring to look at when all you have to stare at are white walls.
