Hanna

When I saw the trailer for “Hanna”, I said to myself: “This is gonna be just another generic action-thriller.” And I was right.

“Hanna” is about a young girl who is raised by her father in the isolation of the forest. There she is trained to become a deadly assassin, with the purpose to kill the woman that killed her mother.

The problem with this movie is that the filmmakers didn’t even try to bring anything new to the table. The only thing that separates this film from a Bourne movie is the fact that here we have a little girl assassin instead of Matt Damon. That’s it. But if you’ve seen “The Professional”, then you’ll realize that concept of a little girl assassin isn’t that fresh either. There’s also this German super solider subplot, which I have seen in numerous other films. So nothing special there. Director Joe Wright is one of the worst that I have seen in a while. He takes this whole MTV music video approach to this film, which really just became annoying. Constantly shaking the camera and twirling it around. Honestly, I’ve actually seen music videos with better directing.

Really the only thing in this movie worth mentioning, I guess, is the acting. I thought Saoirse Ronan did a good job. Eric Bana and Tom Hollander did fine, but it wasn’t as if the roles were that demanding. Cate Blanchett proves this by sleepwalking through her role.

In closing, I’m saying avoid this film. Because if you don’t, the filmmakers will think they are doing a good job. And we really don’t need a “Hanna 2″. So stay away and let this become another forgotten memory. If you need to get your action-thriller fix, don’t worry. There’s thousands of em’. I’m sure you’ll find another one.
