How to Make Christmas Stocking Journal Tags

If you are an avid scrapbook enthusiast, you likely look forward to archiving your family’s Christmas festivities each year. Christmas themed layouts are fun to create and enable you to document annual family traditions to treasure forever. Journal tags are one of my personal favorite scrapbook embellishments, as they allow me to incorporate some of my favorite memories and thoughts into my pages. For Christmas scrapbook layouts, stocking-shaped journal tags are the perfect finishing touch to add to your scrapbook. These adorable journal tags will fit the theme of the pages perfectly and will provide you with a place to write down important memories from the holiday.

To create Christmas stocking journal tags you will need:

Christmas-themed patterned scrapbook paper
Solid colored card stock paper
Pencil
Scissors
Stocking-shaped stencils in two different sizes
Glue
Glitter glue
Hole-punch
Thin ribbon

When choosing your Christmas-themed patterned scrapbook paper, card stock, glitter glue and ribbon, be sure to choose items that coordinate well with one another. For example, your patterned paper could be blue with white snow flakes, your card stock could be solid white, your glitter could be silver and your ribbon could be blue. You will also want these colors to match the colors used in your scrapbook layout for a uniform look upon completion. You can purchase all of the items needed for this project at any scrapbook supply store.

1. Trace the larger stocking-shaped stencil onto the Christmas-themed patterned scrapbook paper. If you are unable to find a stocking-shaped stencil, a stocking-shaped cookie cutter will suffice for this project.

2. Use the scissors to cut the stocking shape out of the patterned paper.

3. Trace the smaller stocking-shaped stencil onto the solid-colored card stock paper.

4. Use the scissors to cut out the stocking shape from the card stock paper.

5. Apply a thin coat of glue to one side of the card stock paper. Line the card stock up in the center of the patterned paper and press down. Roll your fingertips across the card stock to smooth out any wrinkles or creases.

6. Decorate the stocking as you see fit with the glitter glue. You can draw lines or shapes or spread a thin coat across the entire surface of the journal tag. Allow the glitter glue to dry thoroughly before proceeding.

7. Use the hole punch to punch out a hole in the top right or left corner of the stocking-shaped journal tag.

8. Cut a piece of ribbon that is approximately three and a half inches long.

9. Loop the ribbon through the hole in the top corner of the journal tag and tie the ribbon into a secure bow.

Journal tags can be glued anywhere on a scrapbook page. Use calligraphy pens to write on the tags before adding them to your layouts.
