Scary Ape and Monkey Movies

Movie goers may not agree the movies listed below fall under scary movies, but if you’re wanting a scare factor of the primate kind; these should do the trick. Be sure to check out the ones that I say freak me out on some level. The reason I mention that is due to the fact my husband says any movie that freaks or weirds me out on some level has to be a good one.

Of course, most of the ones that freak or weird me out are not on this list of movies to watch. The upside is some of these movies could be family oriented enough for the kids.

Flying Monkeys from “The Wizard of Oz”
Even though “The Wizard of Oz” is not considered a Halloween movie, the flying monkeys alone are enough to scare the bejeebers out of anyone. To make the flying monkeys even worse, they are dressed in Grinder Man monkey fashion. Then there is the even grins on their faces.

Flying Monkeys from “Tin Man”
The remake of “The Wizard of Oz” has the scarier version of the flying monkeys. These versions of the flying creatures look like flying batmonkeys. They aren’t dawned in the clothes from the original. They do look like the angry gorillas from “The Planet of the Apes.”

The Ape Army from “The Planet of the Apes”
The ape army from any of “The Planet of the Apes” movies are scary in their own way. Their mad faces are enough to scare you into believing apes could rule the world. Makes you wonder if an alternate reality could exist while watching the five “Planet of the Apes” movies.

“King Kong” Any Version
What can be said about any of the “King Kong” movies that you do not already know? Any version of a giant ape that is brought to the U.S. taking over New York and climbing the Empire State building is enough to make you rethink searching out a giant ape larger than the ones we know.

“Mighty Joe Young”
Seems like King Kong wasn’t enough of a scare, someone had to go dig up his long lost cousin “Mighty Joe Young.” Watching either version of the movie in the dark on Halloween should be enough to give you a jump and a slight scream.

Albino Apes in “Congo”
Maybe the albino apes were orangutans. Either way, they are part of the primate family and enough to make you want to wee your pants when they go to attack the expedition that is taking the lovable gorilla back to the wild. This movie freaked me out on so many levels I can’t describe it.

“Rise from the Planet of the Apes”
I have only seen the trailers for this newest “Planet of the Apes” movies, but they were enough to freak me out. Not in the same manner as the ones in “Congo.”
