Selene

I was there
But she, was not
And I couldn’t bear
That infinite trot
When time would wear
And I was forgot

The open sky-
Did we not love?
When hour drew nigh
When I’d undreamed of
Your gentle reply
Like a soft mourning dove

With the wandering willows
And the ogling oaks
Did I wander through meadows
And fields yet uncovered

Stumbling on
Through brush and pine
Lying silent tonight,
With the moon I did dine
Where long gone my thoughts,
Have been chasing for you
I must say goodbye,
Farewell, and adieu
