The Internet is the Source of the Technology that I Can’t Live Without

Technology has advanced so much in recent years that it’s sometimes a struggle to keep up with it. New forms of communication, entertainment and methods of working have fundamentally changed how we do most things.

For me, I personally can’t live without the Internet. I spend the vast majority of my time on it and can’t imagine my life any other way. Checking my email is the first thing I do when I wake and the last thing I do before I go to sleep. In between times I check it frequently.

I obtain all of my news from websites on the Internet. I check Fox News and CNN several times throughout the day. There are also several newspapers that I check daily. While I own several televisions, I never watch the news on them. It’s faster to check the internet sites and scroll to the stories that interest me.

My entertainment also comes from the Internet. I watch movies on the computer that have been downloaded from various sites. I also watch television that way. The idea of having to remember when a particular program is going to be broadcast has become alien to me. I watch what I wish to see when I wish to see it. I’ve found that I would often rather wait until a movie is available online than go to the theatre to watch it. While I normally enjoy the shared experience of a theatre, I don’t enjoy the high prices for tickets and snacks, the inability to check movie details online and the bratty children whose parents let them run amok. As I get older I find I have less tolerance for such people and am growing tired of the excuses and sense of entitlement that are offered by them.

I can’t remember what I used to do before I began spending so much time on the Internet. I know I was doing something but the Internet is so much a part of my life now that I can’t imagine life without it. There are times when my Internet connection goes down, usually for network maintenance. This down time bothers me a great deal. I generally read, clean the house or do something constructive when this happens but I find myself constantly checking to see if I’m back online. Only when I’m back online can I relax and finish my offline tasks in peace.
