How to Safely Shop Online

Why fight the crowds? Stay home and shop online. And since everyone is out of the office, you can also shop from work. What else is the computer on your desk good for? Remember your company exists to serve you,

More and more people are drinking and shopping online this year which is not a good idea, as you will probably end up buying chia pets for everyone. If not that, Snuggies all around! This will not endear you to any of your relatives. Which on second thought may be a good idea. What have they done for you lately?

According to Holly Robertson, who is a consultant at a company called E-Biz Works, we might actually set a record for online shopping this year. Holly, which is a great name for anyone that predicts Christmas trends, says “Christmas shopping season might see as much as 36% of all holiday shopping conducted online, up from last year’s 32% . Plus,, it is projected that more shoppers then ever will purchase gifts via devices such as iPhones or iPads”

Hmm, I never thought about shopping through an I-Pad. I wonder how many people do shop through their I-Pads? I have tried shopping through my kneepads, but it is just not the same.

Holly also offers five quick tips for e-commerce ease. The first tip is buy a computer. For some reason, this makes on-line shopping a lot easier.

Okay, here are Holly’s real tips.

Tip Sheet

1. Be cautious with your credit card: Understand that your credit card number is static, and will not change unless you have the account closed altogether.

2. Use credit, but not debit: A debit card will give an online merchant access to your bank account information, while a credit card will not.

3. Be aware of a company’s restocking policy: If you end up needing to return a product, this could potentially cost a good deal of money.

4. Find bargains: Use online bargain sites or shopping memberships to find access to the best deals.

5. Plan carefully: Coordinate your purchases and try to get as many things as possible from the same retailer, to reduce shipping costs.

Follow these five tips and you will be safe this Christmas, unless of course, you slip on ice and get hit by a bus. But that will be covered in another tip sheet.
