A: We answer this question 30 time a day here: Here is a cut and paste:Water molecules actually are a part of the process but there is more to it than that.The atmosphere acts as a giant prism scattering the wavelengths of sunlight. Blue waves being shorter are more easily scattered and therefore are sent in all directions.When you see blue you are seeing photos reflected directly back to you from all the points in the sky. You do have some wavelengths also falling on your eyes as well as upon other objects otherwise everything would look blue during the day. However the blue is scattered: reflected and re-reflected multiple times by the atoms in the atmosphere and so the sky is saturated with blue photons which lag behind the photons they left the surface of the sun with. This results in a temporary but replenished reservoir of blue wavelengths in the atmosphere –making the sky appear blue during the day.Red sunsets represent light which was less scattered and depleted in blue wavelengths. Green is in the middle of the prism effect and if one is looking just at the right time before sunset, a brief 1 second narrow band of green hues(called green “flash over”) can be seen in the sky coming out of the sunset where red meets blue.

A: I used to work for a couple of Goodyear shops, and the blue coloring is just a soap used to protect the letters during manufacturing, and shipping. A good tire store SHOULD have washed it off for you, but if you need to do it yourself, take some hot soapy water, and wet the blue, and let it soak for about 20 minutes, then hose it off with fairly high pressure water, should come off with little effort.
