Injuries Will Continue to Rise in the NBA

We are now four weeks into the NBA season and already we have several key players injured and out for several months (Al Horford and Kwame Brown). Not to mention that the several times I have turned on the television to watch some other high profile players such as Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Paul Pierce, Chris Paul and Amare Stoudamire, I find out they are not playing due to a minor injury. Coincidence? I think not.

In my opinion, the several weeks of training camp and preseason that the NBA players have lost is really hurting the players physically. Many of these players are struggling to get up and down the court, especially when the play is fast paced. A perfect example would be the Knicks/Grizzles game Jan. 12. There were several plays where not one Knick player even attempted to stop a fast break from happening. Not one player made it over half court. Reason? Fatigue. When one’s body is fatigued, we act and react in ways that may not be normal. When one’s body is tired, the amount of injury that occurs increases. In my opinion the amount of sprained ankles, wrists and knees that occur in this year’s NBA season is going to be higher than in years past.
