Like many people I jumped on the iPhone 4s band-wagon and got rather excited at the idea I would be able to speak tell my phone to make notes, set the alarm for my early wake up and even send a text message. So, after an hour of queueing outside the O2 shop at 8am in the freezing cold I couldn’t wait to take it home and test it out! Was I disappointed and was the hype all for nothing?…… NO ! It’s BRILLIANT !!!

Within a matter of minutes I had text messaged almost everyone on my contact list (I’m sure they very enjoyed hearing about my recent purchase!?), set a bunch of reminders about things I didn’t need reminding about and asked as many stupid questions that I could think of, some with the most outrageous answers – the developers at Apple must have had a blast making this – all without moving my hand!
Just a fad, or the future of communication?
Voice recognition is nothing new – Apple released their first desktop and iPhone voice recognition software many years ago – however Siri is much, much more than that. It is intelligent, it understands sentences, it understands commands and more importantly it searches for answers to questions!
Siri has its limitations at present, with location services only available in the US (as Apple have yet to agree a deal with a UK-based location service company, but a deal is expected early 2012), but that doesn’t stop it from being revolutionary and ultimately an incredible, time-saving masterpiece.
The possibilities are endless and incorporating voice control into other products that we use on a daily basis (cars, fridge, cooker….) will only improve the way in which we interact with the things around us and organise our lives.
Conclusion
Siri is a roaring success in my opinion, I love it. I use it every day, it speeds up the boring and rather arduous tasks I must perform on a regular basis. Hooray for Siri and I for one am looking forward to its future updates!
