PC gaming is pretty awesome, especially because of the many features available. However, the Mac also has many features available , including virtually no viruses, awesome software/hardware, and great applications for both college and beyond.
To help choose between the two (Mac and Alienware ), you can ask yourself a few questions :
1) Do you plan on being a gamer beyond college?
2) Will you even have time in college to play games?
3) Will you play “hardcore,” 3D graphically advanced games anyway?
If you answered yes to any of these, an Alienware is probably what you are thinking of.
I’ll start off by describing both systems.
Apple’s Mac:
The Mac is the ultimate college tool. It can’t get normal PC viruses, it has t ons of great features, and isn’t too expensive. Also, all Apple products are greatly respected and desired: they are the best of the best. The Mac is highly mobile (easily to move), doesn’t weigh much, and all their products are easily syncable (e.g: iPod , iPhone , iPad , MacBook , iMac , etc etc…).
Dell’s Alienware :
The Alienware brand is the most respected gaming PC/laptop available. It provides awesome graphics, rendering, processors, you name it. However, both the laptops and desktop PCs are bulky and not that mobile. They are the best for PC gaming, but also come at a huge price.
After college and into adulthood, most teenagers don’t really play hardcore games. However, if you plan on doing so, an Alienware is for you.
In college, the main focus is to study. You also won’t have much time to game, so there isn’t really a point to buy an expensive laptop that you won’t use for the main purpose you bought it for.
Because of the time restraints, you will most likely only play milder games, that don’t require hardcore graphics and rendering. Therefore, the Mac will still be great for both light gaming and college.
Finally, consider the mobility. The Alienware’s lightest laptop is 11 pounds. Adding additional drivers, 3D renderers , graphics cards, and processors will only increase the weight. The MacBook Pro, however, only weights around 5 pounds, and won’t go over that weight much, no matter what you add to it.
If you do plan on gaming during college, why not get a console, such as a PS3 or Xbox360? They are cheaper then spending $2000 on a not-so-great Alienware , or $10,000 on a very-great Alienware desktop PC, and often have better games that aren’t so hardcore.
Also, since they run on their own console made specifically for gaming, they won’t interfere with a college laptop, and won’t need additional add-ons (e.g graphics cards). Plus, you don’t have to move them often, so mobility is not a problem.
Think about it. Would you want a $2,000 laptop that won’t work great for college, or a $1,200 one that will work great and a $350 console for gaming that works even better than a laptop?
