Basic Crochet Amigurumi Doll Pattern

If you enjoy making dolls and know the basics of crochet and crochet in the round (or if you need to learn in the round, just click those links), you will love this simple pattern for making a basic doll form. With different yarn colors, eye types or other simple tweaks, you easily can customize this doll almost any way you choose, for any occasion. Each portion of the doll is created individually, so that collars, sleeves and other embellishments may be added in between steps, as you choose. With Halloween coming up, it is a great time to turn this pattern into little stuffed ghouls and goblins to decorate your home or office.

Materials 1 skein yarn, such as Sensations Angel Hair, Bernat Satin, or Caron Simply Soft Eco 1 package Darico Cat Eyes/Animal Eyes/Black Eyes 9-18mm 1 crochet hook 6.5mm/K A small bag of polyester stuffing

Head Chain four stitches. Use a slip stitch to join the circle. Create seven single crochet (SC) stitches into the center of the circle. Work three SC into the first stitch to create an increase, then one SC into each of the next three stitches. Repeat the increase and three SC, then increase again. Next work a SC into the next four stitches, then increase. Repeat the increase and four SC twice more. Work SC into the next 25 stitches around. Create a SC three together decrease. Work a SC into the next four stitches, then decrease again. Repeat this three times. Fasten off. Insert the eyes. Stuff the head.

Torso Starting anywhere on the head opening, work a SC into the next four stitches. Work an increase, this time using four SC worked into one stitch. SC three times, increase twice, then SC six times. Chain three, SC six times, then chain three again. This creates holes to work the arms into later. SC every stitch for the next three rows. Decrease, then work five SC. Decrease again and SC four. Decrease using only two SC worked into one, then SC five again. SC each stitch for two more rows. Decrease with three, then SC five. Decrease and SC two, repeating both steps once. SC each stitch for two rows, then fasten off. Stuff.

Arms For each appendage, you will do the exact same thing. Pick up stitches all the way around the hole you made, the SC around until the arm is the desired length, stuffing as you go. Fasten off and close up the arm by working across both sides of the hole. If desired, create floppy fingers with looped chain rows.

Legs Start at the middle of the bottom opening of the torso. Crochet the first SC across both sides of the middle, then work around either clockwise (right) or counter clockwise (left), working just the same as for the arms.
