“Footloose” and “Dolphin Tale” Are Top 2 Movies to See This Weekend Oct. 14-16 in Spartanburg,SC

Thinking about going to a movie this weekend? Here are my 2 top picks for best movies showing in my hometown of Spartanburg, SC. this weekend of Oct 14-16.

#1Footloose (release date Oct. 14, 2011) Runtime 1 hr. 55 minutes; Rated PG-13

New and opening today Oct. 14, is the new vibrant youthful musical Footloose, which is based on the original mega hit that debuted in 1984 starring Kevin Bacon! For anyone who grew up in the 1980’s will remember this movie fondly and that includes me! The original soundtrack from the 1984 version of Footloose included popular hits such as “Dancing in the Streets,” “Let’s Hear it for the Boy,” and of course “Footloose.” They were instantly radio hits! Other 1980’s movies similar to the musical Footloose included “Fame” (1980), “Flashdance” (1983), “Purple Rain” (1984), and the unforgettable musical “Dirty Dancing” (1987), my all-time favorite starring Jennifer Grey and the late Patrick Swayze.

Reelviews Movie Reviews says the music in “Footloose” is energetic and personality, but the acting of its lead characters Kenny Wormald and Julianne Hough is lacking in their inability to handle drama. According to Reelviews, more music and less talking would have made this movie re-make better. I will be my own critic when I go see the movie this weekend!

Those of us who loved the original “Footloose” will never forget the incredible Kevin Bacon for his dancing and acting, but maybe this re-make will at least prompt us to relive some wonderful 1984 memories and even pull out the original movie and watch it again!

#2 Dolphin Tale (Release Date Sept. 23, 2011) Runtime 1 hr. 52 minutes; Rated PG (available in 3D)

This inspirational drama is a true story of a brave dolphin and compassionate strangers who band together to save her. The dolphin gets her tale caught in a crab trap and her tale is severely damaged. The young dolphin is named “Winter” and her prognosis is not good. This is a tale of perseverance, hope, and courage. Families are sure to enjoy this refreshing movie.

The stellar cast for “Dolphin Tale” includes Harry Connick, Jr., Ashley Judd, Nathan Gamble, Kris Kristofferson, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, and my favorite Morgan Freeman.

USATODAY.com calls “Dolphin Tale” a feel-good movie of healing and courage and told with a refreshing lack of cynicism. The New York Observer calls it a “delightful new family film” and believes even the most jaded critic will shed a tear before this tale is over.
