Veteran’s Day Parade 2011

Honoriing our veterans has been a time honored policy both in Northeastern Pennsylvania and on this web site. This year’s theme is “Saluting America’s Heroes, Our Veterans.” Due to construction in the area the parade route has been altered this year. Here are the details from the Citizen’s Voice newspaper.

“The 2011 Veterans Day Parade takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday. The parade theme is “Saluting America’s Heroes, Our Veterans.” The parade route changes this year due to the Hotel Sterling detour: it begins on Market Street in Kingston and travels over the Market Street Bridge in Wilkes-Barre before turning right onto South River Street, left onto Northampton Street, left onto South Main Street and finishing at the Kirby Center on Market Street Square. All participants should be in position and lined up no later than 1:30 p.m.

For information about the parade, contact Sgt. 1st Class Dan Stella at 570-288-6641.

Parade Order

Market Street must be kept clear at all times until the parade actually starts. Parade headquarters will, until the parade starts, be at the corner of Rutter Avenue and Market Street, Kingston. After the parade starts, headquarters will be at the head of the parade.

The starting point is designated as the corner of Market Street and Rutter Avenue where the leading units initiate and pass through the assembly area. Subsequent units will take their places in line of marching as the unit preceding them passes their assembly point. Marching units will form as commanders’ desire. Three to six man fronts are recommended. “
