What I Am Finding AsI Look for a Job

What do you have to do to get a job?! It seems as though you have to pay money to make nowadays. Geesh! I keep running into the same road blocks. There are a lot more jobs out there than there were, even back in June. This is a wonderful sign that the economy is indeed recovering. However, if there are not enough people with the right certifications, is it really helping?

I continue to find the same issues as I look for a job. I either do not have the right credentials, or I am over-qualified, or it is a minimum-wage job that is on the opposite side of Atlanta from me. Ok, the last option is a job, right? So, it should be the most beneficial in a tight squeeze. Minimum-wage is $7 something an hour. Gas is $3 something per gallon. It takes a minimum of a fourth of a tank (~3 gallons) to drive to the other side of Atlanta and back in my 30+ mpg car. Plus, since I have a baby, I have to pay a sitter while I work. Thankfully, I have a personal sitter who does not charge me as much as a daycare, but I still have to pay her.

So, now I have to think, is this really beneficial? I have about $10 a day in the car, plus baby sitter costs, plus wear and tear on the car, plus my ten year old to get from school or bus to the sitter who I have to pay more when she keeps both of the kids. So, anywhere between $30 and $60 dollars a day to work, and I am paying out about $30 minimum for gas and sitter alone. Add in any repairs to the car, and I am not sure it is really that beneficial for me to take a minimum-wage job unless it is in my local area. And, again we are back to square one because there are few to none here. {Sigh}
