Did your doctor prescribe a steroid lotion for eczema when it was in fact ringworm?
Q: About five months ago my one year old got ringworm on her face. After her doctor told me to use several OTC remedies that failed he gave me enough samples of a steroid lotion, that is meant to treat eczema, to last me several months. This lotion could only be used for two weeks at a time, everytime I used it the rash would appear to be almost gone but then come back with a vengeance. I went back to her PCP and they didn’t give me any answers as to why that happened and told me to “keep doing what your doing”. I finally took her to a dermatologist and he told me it was ringworm. At this point it was taking over half of her face and she got 9 other spots of ringworm all over her body. I’m guessing it’s from it spreading by way of her bedsheets. Anyways he was so shocked at how bad it looked he got other people from the office to come look at it. He prescribed her Oxistat and I’ve been using it for 5 weeks. While it is dramatically better, it’s not close to being completely gone. I’m wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how long they had to use an antifungal.
A: My situation is a little bit flipped.I went to the doctor with patches of irritaded redness all over my arms. Without asking us any questions, or doing any test the doctor perscribed steroid lotion telling us it was ring worm. I put the lotion on everyday, and eventually my sister had rashes all over her.The lotion did not help, it scarred my skin, and made the situation worse. we went back to the doictor come to find out it was really excema, and it took 3 months to get rid of. we had rashes all over our bodies
