I’d wait until she was atleast day 40 in her pregnancy, and have some x-rays done. That will tell you roughly how many there are, and if she is carrying a really big one. I would be concerned myself about the size difference. It may turn ou…

I would wait until the pup is older at least six weeks old if not older. It is a good idea to let the father sniff something with the puppy scent on it before he actually meets him and of course any time that he spends with the pup should b…

Can I carry my puppy in a bag ?
Q: Hi I am about to get a male Pomeranian puppy he is 10 weeks old and had his first injection. I want to socialize him as soon as possible. Can i take him out until he has his next jab in a dog bag. I will just be taking him to town or outside school so he can get use to people and he will still be warm. What Do you think ?Thanks 🙂 xxI meant so he was in a bag until he has his next infection so he dousnt catch anything !
A: It’s better to wait until pups have had all vaccinations before taking them out to high traffic areas.Your dog should never be carried in a bag or purse- Put him on a leash and let him walk like a dog. We have far too many badly trained and socialized small breed dogs suffering from “small dog syndrome” as it is.
Are there any “tips of the trade” for training a Bichon Frise puppy?
Q: I am getting a male Bichon puppy tomorrow. Are there any tips about housebreaking, feeding, training, etc? Also, at the local pet shop, the owner told my family that some people carry their small breeds (maltese, lhasa, etc) and only put them down so the dog can go, or they are in their kennel if they are not being carried. Is this true? If yes, does it really take only two weeks?Only answers from people with bichon experience. Thanks!
A: That pet store owner sounds like a moron. That is the most ridiculous potty training ‘method’ I’ve ever heard! Dogs are *meant* to have their four paws on the ground. They should not be constantly carried all of the time. They *need* the stimulation and exercise that walking around gives them, and exploring their surroundings. This is what dogs do.If you are actually buying this puppy FROM the pet store, please reconsider. Pet store puppies come from puppy mills, and are notorious for health problems and poor temperaments… AND you’d be supporting those puppy mills. What DOES help with potty training is to keep your new puppy on a leash in the house, while supervising him closely. This serves two purposes… letting him drag the leash around behind him will get him used to having it on, which doesn’t come naturally to puppies. It also helps you to watch him like a hawk, and grab the leash to get him outside when he needs to “go”… recognize the signs (sniffing, spinning, etc). You can start training things like “sit” and “down” right away, as soon as you bring your pup home. Make sure that you reward him *every time* he performs well. Don’t get impatient or frustrated with him when he is learning… make the training fun, keep the sessions short. Puppies have an attention span of about 2 seconds LOL.Ask your breeder about the feeding schedule. Young, small breed pups should have 3-4 meals per day… amounts are based on the age and weight of your puppy.Good luck.
How many puppies will there be in a litter?
Q: I would like to know how you can determine how many puppies will be born in a litter. I know it all depends on the dogs breed, But do you look at the breed of the female dog carrying the pups or the male dog which impregnated her.
A: It is impossible to tell how many they will have, even if you know the breed of both the mother and father dogs. I have a neighbor that breeds and shows Burmese Mountain Dogs and they recently had a litter of puppies and only had 3 in the litter. They normally had between 5-8 puppies in a litter. The only way to know how many puppies are going to be in a litter are to wait until they are born.
