Can You Get Pedicures While Pregnant?
Q: I know most people do, but I have a friend who is a massage therapists and said they learned in school pregnant women should not have their feet massaged as there are pressure points than can cause serious things like early on in pregnancy miscarriage and in the later stages cause preterm labor or the baby to turn. Anyone heard of this? And or Do you Get pedicures while pregnant? THANKS!!!
A: Interestingly, they are right, BUT the certain pressure point they speak of is somewhere around the ankle. Just let the pedicurist know not to massage the ankles. The spot, if stimulated, can cause contractions. (It is a very small point, so you really have nothing to worry about, and it is a small chance anyway! ) The other pressure point you need to worry about is the spot just above the web between thumb and pointer finger. Massaging this spot can also cause contractions. During pregnancy this spot is sore, like a writers cramp.
30 weeks pregnant and feel like i’m 41 weeks…?
Q: I’m just about 5’0 tall, i was 97lbs before pregnancy (which was normal for my body type) I’m 30 weeks along now, and i’ve gained about 25lbs. DR told me i would only gain about 20lbs during my pregnancy. And i have a feeling at the end of my pregnancy i would have gained about 35-40lbs. Problem is, i can barley move…Standing, walking, getting up. Hurts soo much, with so much pressure in my knees, my privet area, my hips. And of course the baby’s head pushing down on my pelvic bone doesn’t help. I been going to physical therapy since i was 15 weeks. Last week i saw someone new, who really knows her stuff. And she told me after massaging me in my back/legs/thighs that it doesn’t feel normal. That i am wayy more tense then other pregnant women she see’s. And what my DR is doing about this. Well, my DR does nothing, i’ve seen 3 diff Dr’s for this pain, and they pretty much laugh it off, saying it’s normal. She had me walk down the hall, and told me i’m not waddling like a pregnant women, i’m more like dragging myself along. She said it could have alot to do with the fact i broke the ball of my foot last year. I’m just really not sure what to do.. My husband, and my mother are really worried how i’ll get around in the next 10 weeks to come. I only go out on my own 1 day a week now, since we’re on the 3rd floor of our walk up apartment. By the time i get down, i am totally out of breathe. And sleeping is another thing, i’m up every hr. I cannot switch positions without my husband’s help. My groyne area hurts so much, my thighs feel like bags of potatoes and my spine feels in pieces. Anyone have any advice on what i should do? Or what could help? i’m totally at my wits end about this..
A: you should try using one of those belly belts they hold your belly up that might relieve some pressure from your pelvic area, warm baths … more theropy … i went from 108-160 my first pregnancy and had some pain but nothing like what your saying try seein yet another dr !
life altering decisions…?
Q: Hello everyone. Lets get to it. I’ve ask a few questions before so i’m not a stranger to this. I have moved passed the ex ordeal, and my three divas have officially accepted my friendship (i’ve slept with mom and daughter, and don’t want to be a home wrecker) as oppose to something a little more serious. I’ve recently become in involved with a new woman (she is older of course). She has two children from a previous marriage. she has been divorced for a while. She also happens to be my uncles best friend (he’s gay) and she has managed to get past it, almost lol. Her kids like me (all kids like me though) but im nothing more than my uncles nephew to them. She has returned to school to get her nursing degree. We’ve already had relations (a whirlwind weekend in philly). She is coming down for my mother’s wedding (oh yeah we are still kind of sneaking around, but its fun). Here is the issue(s) we face. She can’t/won’t have children, which means i don’t get the opportunity to do the father type things when a woman gets pregnant (rubbing bellies, massaging feet, talking to the baby, blah blah). She suggested artificial insemination or adoption…hmm…i’m an only child so I have to plant my seed (i’m the last on my father’s side, extinction sucks). adoption would be nice after i’ve had my first biological child. next, she is working to be a traveling nurse, not much to say there. she said she would tell me if she was going to sleep with someone else, which i wouldnt mind as long as the feeling was mutual on her end. kind of strange since we’ve talked about being exclusively involved. so thats going to be a long conversation in itself. but even so, she travels, and with my career choice, i’d been doing heavy traveling myself (insecurities abound). she suggest i move closer to her, but her city is just plain ugly, and there isnt much to do, sorry thats a no go. she wont move to where i am at. right now we are stuck in between cuddy buddy syndrome and full relationship. She honestly wants to be there as I work towards my success, which something i truly appreciate about her. she does not care about my lack of success as long as i continue to strive for it. she told me that its my drive to keep fighting thats so attractive. she has told me numorous times that she wants be here for me during my hardships wants to be apart my growing process. She is also weary of me hurting her, I mean she knows my “g”. she is really self conscious about her looks, but she handles it in a foward manner. I think is beautiful, flaws and all. should we try for this or should we just leave it where it is and not even try? She still dates (i dont get to heavy in her business) i do the same. She asked how i felt about it. I told since its too soon to call I wont ask anything of her, but personally i dont want her seeing anyone, and i dont want to see anyone myself. We care about each other. stuck between a rock, a hard place, and a big ditch
A: You should be friends with her. You want to go through the whole process of pregnancy and you will not have it with her. You should be friends with benefits, if you like doing it with her. Date around and see if you find someone else that you would eventually love. Or you could be her exclusive boyfriend and forget about being there for the pregnancy stages.
