A: OH my gosh yes!!! Its normal, but don’t let this become a habit. I allowed ” stress” to consume me for three years and developed permenent Insomnia which would happen even if I was not stressed. I had to go on medication to help me sleep, but even know I have to watch what I think or do before bed. Stress can make you think about problems over and over and then you keep stairing at the clock and still can’t sleep/ This happens a lot. What your brain is telling you is that you need to confront what is stressing you out. maybe write in a journal your thoughts and feelings and tell yourself that when you close the journal you are closing your thought and feelings in that book just for the night. Also it helps not to listen to loud music or tv before bed. It can stimulate you even when you THINK you are relaxing. Reading a heavy book or even interesting book before bed can also stimulate you. Sometimes reading something fun. or light even a fairytale ( I kid you not, it helps!) can relax you. Lavender on your pillow and a candle by your bed is also helpful when you are feeling jittery.The only way stress will stop keeping you up at night is if you confront what is upsetting you, or change how you view the problem. How do I keep my toddler from being too stressed while we move?
Q: She’s 2 1/2, and she does not like the disruption of her schedule or our home at all. She’s been getting into boxes and throwing things everywhere, and having temper tantrums. With a normal child I wouldn’t worry … but she has some health problems and the stress is making her health worse.I would normally just spend some extra time cuddling with her to relieve her stress, but I just can’t do that right now.Any suggestions on how I can make this a little less stressful for her?
A: What I found, with my two boys, is to try to get them to actively contribute to the endeavor. Praise them profusely when they help, but don’t ever scold them for lapsing into playing. The whole idea is to keep it fun (whether it’s fun, or not). You shouldn’t have to cuddle her all the time… she needs to know that she’s an integral part of the family and should share some of the duties. We started this process in their toddler years by having them clean up their toys every evening before bed. I can’t begin to tell you how this seed we planted, early on, has blossomed in their later years. They’re two of the best boys a parent could ever want. I’ve very proud (as if you couldn’t tell).
