Christmastime at the Hearth

The time has come again, the time of Christmas

A time to be shared with those we love

A time to be surrounded by family

A time to share with each other, through gifts and presents

A time during which we are filled with warmth

A warmth that glows like embers of the fire

We cozy up next to the hearth and admire the fire

As we ready ourselves for our Christmas

After we entered from outside we immediately felt its warmth

The heat grows in the presence of our love

We longingly glance over at the wrapped presents

But choose to put off the unwrapping to spend time with family

In these moments we consider our family

Contemplating its importance as we sit next to the fire

Our closeness means so much more than presents

For these moments seem to only come at Christmas

And we find ourselves surrounded in love

And love brings us all so much more warmth

The heat tickles our noses, and we become sleepy from the warmth

We remember every Christmas spent with our family

And reminisce about those we’ve lost but still love

Their unending presence endures like the fire

The memories are stronger at Christmas

And these memories are more important than presents

The fire may be reduced to embers, but not our love

And because of this love we finally exchange our presents

And open up boxes of sweaters as we lounge by the fire

The thoughtfulness of others brings us warmth

Because no one knows us like our family

Especially when exchanging gifts at Christmas

These moments are saturated with love

Hot cocoa and laughter and warmth

Piles of unpackaged presents

Strewn to the side to chatter with family

As we poke at and encourage the fire

So it will continue, prolonging our Christmas

Oh the overwhelming love and satisfying warmth!

Oh the packages, the presents, the moments with family!

Oh as we lounge by the fire and enjoy our Christmas!
