Ideas on Ways to Be Non-Sexually Intimate with Your Partner

If you watch a lot of television or go to the movies very often you’re likely to get the idea that when it comes to expressions of love between the genders, it’s all about dancing between the sheets. Unfortunately, in the real world, such a perception can lead to frivolous relationships that are never really allowed to amount to much. Both parties tend to wind up feeling empty afterwards and wondering why they don’t feel closer. The answer it appears is, they’ve never really learned how to be intimate with someone in non-sexual ways.

One of the best ways to be intimate with another person is through touch. Of course, there are different kinds of touch, and that’s the difference between sending a signal that says you want sex, and one that simply says, I love you. A caress on the cheek for example sends a far different massage than a squeeze of a butt cheek. So too does holding and rubbing shoulders without allowing hands to stray to more erogenous zones. It might take some practice for those that find the whole idea a foreign concept, but it all pays off in the end.

Another way to be intimate without appearing hungry for sex, is holding that person you love in ways that suggest you love them. Hugs are good, but so too is holding someone in your arms as you both lay together watching television. Holding one another as you fall asleep is pretty good, too. The whole point is it is possible to hold someone without expecting it to progress to something else.

Something many people overlook when thinking of ways to be intimate with someone is simple conversation. Of course, there’s talking, and then there’s talking. Intimate conversation doesn’t have to degrade to sex talk, it just needs to be done in way where there is some banter involved, perhaps even some flirting from time to time. It’s usually best when the two people talking sit close so as to feel close and also so that both can speak in low voices.

And finally, being intimate with someone is partly a means for demonstrating in sometimes subtle ways, that you like them. It’s also partly a means for showing that you like being close with them and enjoy the connection the two of you share. Thus, a little touch on the arm here, or a gentle nudge there, goes a long way towards demonstrating such feelings. So too does holding hands when walking, or smiling when that cherished person walks into the room.

Being intimate with someone isn’t something you do now and then it’s a way of life.
