Giant Monogram Corkboard

Crafts are very popular nowadays but they came about because of really poor people. These people – long, long ago – could not afford to purchase beautiful clothing and lovely home decorations. Instead, they had to become very resourceful. They sawed wood into short sections and called it kitchen chairs. They took a scrap of fabric from an old garment and turned it into a doll for their child. Back then you were poor, now it’s called talent or craftiness. No matter what you call it some people now prefer to make many of their own things because they save money and get to have things their way.

A giant monogram corkboard is quite expensive to purchase – if you can even find one – but it’s very cheap to make. You can make a more expensive version, a type which takes hours to make, using fiberboard. You’ll have to download a template of the letter you want, draw it onto the fiberboard, cut out the board with a jigsaw, cut a piece of cork, and attach it.

If you have some cardboard at home you can make a much easier version of the giant monogram corkboard. You’ll need a large piece of thick cardboard to make the letter. Go online and download a template for the letter you want and size it to be as large as you want the corkboard to be. Lay the template on the cardboard and draw around it. Use a craft knife to cut out the letter.

Purchase cork by the roll at a craft or home improvement store. Make sure the cork you buy is wide enough and long enough to accommodate the size you’ve chosen for the cardboard letter. Draw around the template, onto the cork, and cut it out with scissors. For some people, it’s easiest to attach the cork to the cardboard, then cut off the excess cork to make the letter.

Use a spray adhesive, coat the entire cardboard letter with it, then stick the cork to it. If you want the board to be a different color it’s easy to prime and paint the giant monogram. Peel-and-stick picture hangers work well to hang the corkboard.

You can give the cardboard a more finished look if you glue roping around the perimeter of the letter. Hang the monogram corkboard in a teen’s room, the kitchen, or another area of the home. It’s a beautiful and functional decorator piece that’s perfect for nearly anyone.
