A: an abscess is an infection so all she needs is to keep the foods that makes it flare up away form her as if she were allergic to it (which may be the case) , if she can get her to stick mostly to fruits and vegetables as those help fight infections , try to stray from meats if possible. any doctor can treat an abscess and prescribe antibiotics (probably omoxicillan ) for it to be cured for a while. hope this helps.

Q: he’s happy and has an apetite. it doesn’t seem to bother him. he’s 12 and often gets into things he shouldn’t, like recycling box for cans. if it is an abscess how is it dealt with?updating what i posted – his tooth is has a black tinge to it. does this signify something? an abscess? dental sugery?he’s an elkhound with an average life span of 12-14. and being 12 years old, i’m concerned he may not do well with dental surgery.updating what i posted – his tooth has a black tinge to it. does this signify something? an abscess? gum infection?he’s pretty happy and is eating well. is dental sugery likely?he’s an elkhound with an average life span of 12-14. and being 12 years old, i’m concerned he may not do well with dental surgery.
A: if its an abscess then it needs to be treated by a vet with antibiotics. if not then it will just build up infection until it becomes a much larger problem. abscesses are usually drained and cleaned out. then the animal is placed on a broad spectrum antibiotic to protect against any infection. thats how the vet i work for treats them. keep in mind that it could be something else so it is definitely something that needs to be seen by a vet. if infected it will eventually (if it hasnt already) lead to a high fever which can be dangerous. good luck and hope he feels better
Can MRSA be cured without antibiotics?
Q: I had an abscess which was drained and diagnosed thru culture as MRSA. Dr. said I don’t need antibiotics. One week later I have more abscesses. Can this be cured without treatment?
A: Drainage of any abscess may not require antibiotics. Recurrent abscesses warrant a course of an appropriate antibiotic. Call your doctor.
