5 Ways to Lessen the Effects of Morning Sickness

Let’s face it, the person who named “morning sickness” has never been pregnant. For many of us, morning sickness is actually all day sickness. But there are many ways that you can lessen the effects of morning sickness and still live life to the fullest in your first trimester.

Don’t Eat To Little Or Too Much at a Time
The most common cause that will send you running to the bathroom is allowing yourself to become too empty, or eating too much at one setting. Monitor your food intake and break your meals down into two. Since you are supposed to eat at least three meals a day to ensure that you have adequate energy for you and your baby, don’t skip one. Simply break these three meals down into six smaller meals and spread them out through the day.

Avoid Strongly Flavored Foods
Eating a bland diet may not sound like fun, but trust me, spices can send you running to the bathroom just as fast as eating too much can. Also, if you are experiencing morning sickness anyway, hot spicy food is not what you want to experience a second time.

Lay on the Bathroom Floor
Through all three of my pregnancies, this is where I spent quality time after breakfast. I have no idea why, but when you feel like you have a hangover, treat it like one. Stay near the toilet and enjoy the cold tile.

Take Your Vitamins
Even though the thought of swallowing even a pill can make your stomach turn, your vitamins can actually help you avoid morning sickness. B vitamins are very important to liver function and ensuring that your body is able to process everything that goes through it. Increasing your B vitamin intake can actually help avoid morning sickness and keep you feeling in tip-top shape.

Understand Your Physical Limits
Becoming exhausted can actually add to your nausea. Allowing yourself to take small rests during busy portions of your day is very important to you over all physical health. Stress is not good for you or the baby, so avoid too much physical stress.
