Do You Need a Computer & Live in the Manassas Area – Linux4Hope Provides Refurbished Ones to Those in Need

Manassas, Virginia – Linux4Hope Provides Refurbished Computers For Those Who Are In Need Of One:

Manassas – Linux4Hope provides refurbished computers for those who are in need. Garron Haun’s Organization, Haun’s Linux4Hope, has been running for less than 2 years and he’s looking to register it officially as a nonprofit organization.

This is definitely not bad for an 18-year-old who is still going to college. A Manassas resident who stated, he’s lived in the area all his life. He held a fundraiser on Monday, October 11, 2011 at Tropical Smoothie Café at 9971 Sowder Village Square, to raise enough money to apply for a nonprofit status. Linux4Hope will receive 10% of sales from Monday’s fundraiser between 5 and 8:30 p.m. And if Tropical Smoothie makes $2,000 or more during this time frame, Haun’s operation will receive 20 percent which Haun stated, it’s not a lot but it’ll help.

During this fundraiser, Haun had 2 computers on display, demonstrating the operating system he uses when he refurbishes the units. He also indicated, they do not use Windows; instead, we use a Linux kernel. It’s different from Windows. It’s like how Windows’ operating system is different from the Mac system.

Haun also stated, he prefers Linux-based systems, particularly Ubuntu and Linux mint, because they’re “more stable” than Windows. Stating, it’s not virus-free, but you really have to try to get a virus with these type systems.

His business has expanded to Harrisonburg, Richmond, Los Angeles and even to London.

Haun is a student at Northern Virginia Community College, where he is pursuing a cyber forensics degree, hoping to get into counter-terrorism.

Those in need…can apply for a computer – Haun and his girlfriend Jessica Waters, a co-founder of the Linux4Hope, will personally deliver, on the organization’s website, linux4hope.org.

Requirements that must be met to acquire one of these computers:

1) They cannot own a computer that works.

2) Provide why they want to have a computer.

3) Haun’s favorites are finding College students because the most from the use of a computer.

How you can apply: Haun wants people to work for it a little – you need to show him some efforts on your part because I’m not going to delivering it and handing it over in a Walmart parking lot. If someone outside of the personal delivery area is approved, that’s where the new branches come into play. Those branches receive the order and complete the work, delivering the unit themselves.

Haun also indicated, the additional branches are all open, though most haven’t donated any computers as yet. Haun stated, I’m delivering 2 complete computers this coming Friday, in fact.
