Summer Mourning

I listen to a dog bark,

When I go down to the park.

In the middle of the day,

Where the children used to play.

The laughter I once enjoyed,

I can now feel as a void.

Because as has been the rule,

They have all gone back to school.

Everything to be seen,

Everything that was green,

Feel the grass between my toes,

Before its lost to the snows.

As the trees turn into rust,

Waiting ’till leaves turn to dust.

Of their beauty I will reap,

‘Till their naked barren sleep.

Until the night’s reach extends,

The sun’s will weakens and bends,

Enjoy the warmth of our star,

While Jack Frost is still afar,

Because the chill of the night,

Will soon be felt in the light,

And you’ll feel it a bummer

To not be in the summer.

And now as it has been told,

We can not hold off the cold,

Because fall will bring winter,

And then my heart will splinter,

For I do not like to freeze.

please hurry next summer, please.

For it is the time of year,

The end of summer draws near.
