We all live together, she is 84. I just found out today the last time her medication was refilled was 8-24-06, I am getting her medication today and we are going to approach her as to why she isn’t taking it and we are trying to help because if other family members find out they will put her in a nursing home (again) We care enough about her to talk about this and I am here with her so I am going to give her the medication myself from now on, any advice on the conversation we will have, how to approach this?? please

I would just tell her what could happen if she doesnt take her meds. Its very important that she does. Its for her own good and well being. If shes not happy, no one will be, if shes truly bipolar.
In a non-threatening way. Maybe she forgot. My grandmother is the same age and she has dementia/Alzheimer’s — she can’t remember to take her meds and needs help. Monitor the situation and remind her to take them.
if you live in the uk it is likely that the grandmothers psychiatric care is overseen by a community mental health team – seek advice from the gp and good luck – it pays to be honest xx
