Five Work-Appropriate Wardrobe Staples for Women

Dressing for the average workplace can be boring. An assortment of basic outfits with absolutely no fun factor does not have to be the norm. Adding five key pieces to a wardrobe can help with having attractive pieces to wear to work and with building on an everyday wardrobe that can integrate work-appropriate with fun.

The Blazer
A basic black blazer is always work appropriate, but it’s also a bit bland. Instead of opting for the boring black, search for one that is a bit more fun and fashion forward. Navy is an option, but blazers can also be found in great colors like turquoise or fuchsia and in fun patterns. The blazer can be paired with all of the key pieces in a business wardrobe, resulting in versatility as well as a bit of fun factor.

A Black Sheath
Basic black isn’t always bad. In the case of a sheath dress, black is perfect. This dress, generally hemmed to the knee, is a great versatile piece because it can be dressed up for down. Add a simple cardigan and flats, and the outfit is work appropriate but low key. Substitute a pair of heels and the colorful blazer from above, and the look is polished yet trendy.

Well-Fitted Dress Pants
Not everybody wears pants, but sometimes a pair of perfectly tailored khaki, black, or navy dress pants are necessary. If the pants fit perfectly they present a tailored look of effortless elegance whether paired with flats or heels. The fit here is key.

A Comfortable Blouse
A really great blouse is sometimes hard to come by. Luckily, there are many options that range from basic white to trendy patterns. It’s okay to don a crazy-patterned blouse as long as a solid bottom piece and a basic cardigan or blazer tempers the pattern.

Accessories
Accessories can make or break an outfit. The best plan with accessories is to avoid over doing it. If you plan to wear a teal blazer and a fuchsia shirt, it may be best to opt for a more neutral accessory pallet. On the other spectrum, if you wear your black sheath dress with black heels and a black blazer, a fun pop of color through a scarf or statement necklace can add some glamour to the outfit.

Dressing for work doesn’t have to mean two separate wardrobes. Every day pieces can be incorporated into a basic pool of work-appropriate pieces. Finding those key pieces in cuts and colors that work for you will make a world of difference in your outlook on workplace attire.
