Recycled Sweater Accent Pillows

Recycle old sweaters into beautiful accent pillows. The various colors and designs of sweaters make them an ideal fabric to create pillows to compliment any room. The process takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Enjoy the comfort of a soft pillow when using recycled sweater fabric.

Things You’ll Need:

Old sweater
Scissors
Straight pins
Sewing machine
Thread
Fiberfill

Instructions:

Step 1 – Turn an old sweater inside out. Place it on a flat work surface. Smooth out all wrinkles with your hands.

Step 2 – Cut just above the bottom ribbing straight across the sweater. Make a second straight cut just below the armholes.

Step 3 – Pin along the two cut lines.

Step 4 – Sew a ½-inch straight seam along one cut edge.

Step 5 – Sew a ½-inch straight seam 6-inches long on the second cut edge. Move the needle 3-inches to leave an opening for stuffing. Straight stitch a ½-inch seam along the remainder of the cut edge.

Step 6 – Turn the sweater pillow right side out. Place your hand in the opening. Grab the opposite side of the sweater and pull it through the hole. Continue to pull until the entire pillow is right side out.

Step 7 – Stuff the pillow with fiberfill until it reaches the desired softness.

Step 8 – Turn the raw edge of the opening to the center of the pillow ½-inch. Pin the two sides together. Hand stitch the opening closed.

Place the pillow on a sofa, bed or chair. These simple to make pillows make excellent gifts.
