The only reason why sulfates are “bad” is for coloured hair, they tend to take the colour out. I do not personally like sulfate free shampoo’s. Redken is an excellent brand and sulfates will not hurt you or your hair.

Q: My sister keeps telling me that it is really bad. Is this true? And if it is true can you recommend any good brands of sulfate free shampoos. Thank you.
A: Don’t listen to the first poster. Just because something is in almost evey shampoo on the market doesn’t mean it’s good for your hair. Mineral oil is in the majority of hair products, but it is in no way god for one’s hair. SLS/ LS/Sulfate is what makes shampoos “foam” or “lather”. It serves no purpose other that to trick the person who is using it into thinking that their hair is being cleaned. in other words, some of the BETTER shampoos have no lather, but people assume that because a shampoo lathers it is actually doing a better job as cleansing the hair…this is not true. Sulfate can be extremely drying to hair, thus causing brittle hair and later on breakage. Wash your hair with baking soda instead of shampoo (until you find a sulfate free shampoo) and use hot oil treatments oonce every two weeks, Refrain from using store bought hair products and instead research 100% natural hair care products. Natural hair care products (that are TRULY natural) cannot be found in stores, so you may have to order them online, or perhaps research hair remedies. My advise to you, is to from now on pay close attention to the ingredient label on the back of hair products.Good Luck!
is sulfate bad for your hair? does it makes it thin is this true?
Q: my mom has thin hair and has been trying to find a sulfate free shampoo any suggestions???
A: IDK about it thinning your hair, but it does strip the color if you have dyed/bleached hair. Sulfate free shampoos work great for keeping color lasting longer.I’d suggest Organix Shampoo. I found it at Target but they have it at other places. Here’s the store locator:http://www.organixhair.com/buy.asp
