How many calories are in home made french fries?
Q: How many calories are in home made french fries? Like if I take a large potato, slice it and then deep fry it in my deep fryer how many calories would be in those french fries? If no one can tell me, where can I find this info? Thanks!!NOTE: I am NOT, I repeat NOT looking for diet/fitness advice, I’m just wondering about my question, that is all. I DO NOT want diet advice, just an answer to my question. Thanks!!
A: It would depend on how much you soak out or blot out the oil (with paper towels). In fast food restaurants, just a little small serving is around 230 calories (210 to 250, depending on how generous they are on their portion sizes…) because they never blot out the oil (and they use the unhealthy cheap kind too!).The potato itself is only about 135 calories (if you would boil it or microwave it without using oil at all). The rest of the calories is all about the oil.If you fry it homemade and make sure you blot out the oil (which they do not do in restaurants) then your fries will be extraordinarily low calories and soooo much better tasting too, because you will use the good healthy expensive oils (Canola, Hazelnut, Coconut), not the cheap one restaurants use and reuse and reuse again (palm oils, saturated oils with trans fat), and you won’t use tons of salt, like they do.I think a large potato would be the equivalent of two medium size servings of fries (I use 2 large potatoes for four people and each get tons of fries). As soon as the potato are fried, I don’t let them soak in the oil (unlike fast food restaurant) and I drain them right away on paper towels and then use more paper towels to soak out more oil. I don’t know the exact number of calories my homemade French fries are, but they’re light and not greasy, and any calorie from the oil would be good anyway, because it would be the good kind of oil, the one that feed your brain, not the one that clog your arteries.I can tell you that my homemade meatballs are about one third of the calories of store bought meatballs and bigger too!
