Q: It’s so confusing…I’m currently on a healthy, reduced calorie diet (yes, I am eating my protein!) and i weight train 3 times a week and do high intensity cardio 3 times a week. A: Yes, it’s very possible. Fat is stored energy, extra calories that your body didn’t use get stored as fat. Muscle is not stored energy. When you create a calorie defecit, your body begins to use it’s reserves – the fat. A: Simply, yes it called atrophy and as soon as 3 days from your last workout you can lose muscle. Now will it be noticeable, no. And it won’t take much to gain it back but you lose some none the less. Trust me you wont get muscular by just lifting, it’s all in genetics and diet. Google and find a BMI(Body Mass Index) calculator, that can give you a rough estimate how many calories your body needs daily to just survive. Then simply make sure you have a deficit from that and slowly but surely the weight will come off. 1-2 pounds a week is healthy. I’d aim for one. There’s 3500 calories in 1 pound so by cutting your daily diet 500 calories a day that = 1 pound a week. May seem a lot harder then it really is. A: Your body can burn through muscle stores when you run, but that’s going to occur only after extreme distances at one time. If you ran 20 miles a day three or four days a week, you’d lose muscle mass. 20 total miles? Nope. You’re fine.
