Does the drug psilocybin cause brain damage?
Q: Does the drug psilocybin cause brain damage? I don’t want answers from people that have no idea about drugs and just feel like saying yes (to brain damage) and not having a legit reason why. I tried them when I was 14 and I don’t believe they cause any damage to the brain.
A: No not at all..In fact there are shamans in Mexico that consider magic mushrooms to be a sacrament and they have been using it for thousands of years without any negative side effects…here is a little info on the pharmacological aspect of them:The main alkaloid found in Psilocybin mushrooms is really similar to the chemical structure of the monoamine neurotransmitter Serotonin. when you eat the mushroom the alkaloid Psilocybin turns into Psilocin which then attaches itself to the same Receptor as Serotonin. which are the (5HT) Receptors found in the Central Nervous System. the main Receptor being the 5HT2A. What it does is it works as an Agonist at that Receptor…it attaches itself and then it activates it.. after that it immediately or almost immediately dissociates from it..As i explained before Psilocybin and Serotonin have a chemical structure that is nearly identical… if shrooms were to cause brain damage so would Serotonin which is impossible… unless there is an over abundance of it, then you get whats called Serotonin Syndrome but that’s not the case with Psilocybin…Here are some things that shrooms have helped with:Psilocybin mushrooms are more effective than any other drug out there at relieving pain from cluster headaches and interrupting cluster headache cycles before they occur. They also work at relieving Chronic Pain and Anxiety in Terminally ill Cancer Patients. Its also very effective in getting rid of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Clinical Depression. The most recent study shows that it might be effective in Treating Alcoholism or Drug Addiction as does LSD…Now there is no connection between psychosis or schizophrenia and the use of psychedelics however, studies have shown that its possible to “exacerbate latent or existing mental disorders”in people that are already predisposed to it..what i mean is if you have a family history of mental disorders you might want to stay away from psychedelics but if your not than go for it!but you asked if shrooms cause brain damage… no they do not..good luck mate!
Does anyone know what the legal status is currently for psilocybin mushroom spores in Utah?
Q: I am interested in doing some private research on these spores, however, I live in Utah and am not entirely sure what their legal status is as of late. Can anyone provide me with some information and/or possibly an updated source regarding utah’s legal status?
A: United StatesPsilocybin mushroom spores are legal to possess in every state in the United States, except California, Georgia, and Idaho. This is because it is psilocybin and psilocin (the active chemicals in psychedelic mushrooms) which are specifically listed in Schedule I, not the mushrooms themselves. Theoretically any plant or mushroom which contains psilocybin may be considered a “container” of psilocybin which makes the plant illegal also. However, mushroom spores do not contain psilocybin or psilocin. For this reason, they are not illegal either federally or in most states. California, Georgia, and Idaho have specifically passed laws which make it illegal, at least in some situations, to possess spores that produce psilocybin-containing mushrooms.Federal law in the United States does not mention psilocybin mushroom spores.~
