What kind of treatment is there for mono symptoms?
Q: My best friend has mononucleiosis, and one of her worst symptoms is an enlarged liver and spleen. She’s been sick for a month and was doing all right, but working full-time and taking 19 credit hours in school ended up being too much and she landed herself in bed for a week. Then she got a very bad sinus infection, pinkeye, and strep throat. She’s on the mend, but the medicines she’s on are just zapping her energy. Does anyone have any other treatments that can help send her to recovery?
A: Unfortunately there is no cure for mononucleosis, it just requires lots of rest and suspension of strenuous physical activity (which can aggravate your already over-worked spleen and cause complications). Strep throat is a common complication of mono and is treated with oral antibiotics, which she has likely been prescribed. The sinus infection and pinkeye likely resulted because she was pushing herself too hard; mono is hard on the immune system which is why you need to rest, otherwise your prone to getting other infections. It’s likely that it’s not the medications that are zapping her energy, but the mono! That’s classic mono, you’re extremely fatigued and require lots of sleep. It’s better to take some time off school and get over the mono then to try and push through it. That just prolongs the illness.Hope she feels better soon 🙂
I am deaf in one ear, so want music through headphones to be in mono. Is there an mp3 player for me?
Q: If you’re deaf in one ear you don’t want stereo music through headphones because you completely miss one channel. I need the player to have a mono setting, so the music coming out of the headphone jack is in mono, or I’d need some kind of adapter that plugs into headphone jack and converts stereo to mono. Does anything like this exist?
A: You can get a converter that is a stereo plug on the male end that sticks into your MP3 player, and then has the two signals connected together inside it to put both channels to both ears. you should be able to get something like this at Radioshack, or any electronics place for 5 bucks or so. Then you can use it and your headphones with any audio device.
